
Just a month after regaining the Junior Championship crown, the Seniors went to Jamaica and retained their overall title on Saturday.
The men’s team defeated the hosts 3-2 with Alex Arjoon, Jason-Ray Khalil, and Samuel Inc-Carvalhal delivering the all-important wins for the Guyanese.
Caribbean Under-19 champion Shomari Wiltshire pushed 10-time senior champion, Chris Binnie, but went down 8-11, 2-11, 8-11 while Daniel Ince lost 7-11, 5-11, 10-12 to Bruce Burrowes.
For the females, their triumph was more straightforward as they whipped Jamaica 5-0 led by Caribbean champion Ashley Khalil who defeated Mia Todd 11-4, 11-2, 11-5.
Taylor Fernandes, Akeila Wiltshire, Ashley DeGroot, and Abosaide Cadogan also produced very convincing wins for dominant Guyana.
Additionally, Ramon Chan-A-Sue played unbeaten to win the men’s 40+ while Tiana Edwards finished second in the female category.
Brian Young was fifth in the 50+ while Michelle Low was third.
Those accolades add to Ashley Khalil’s gold in the women’s singles in which Fernandes was second followed by DeGroot and Akeila Wiltshire.
Additionally, Nyron Joseph and Jason-Ray won gold by defeating Barbadians Khamal Cumberbatch and Shawn Simpson 11-10, 11-10, while Ashely Khalil and DeGroot topped Caymanians Jade Pitcairn and Michaela Rensburg 11-6, 11-8, for the second doubles gold for Guyana.
However, in the mixed doubles, Ince and Fernandes went down to Cayman’s top mixed doubles duo of Marlene West and Cameron Stafford 3-11, 7-11.
Next year, the Junior Championships are scheduled for St. Vincent and the Grenadines while the Cayman Islands are expected to host the Seniors.
