Weeks after he publicly accused the Guyana Police Force of allegedly covering up the investigations into the murder of biker, Ricardo Fagundes, Police Detective, Sergeant Dion Bascom was today hit with three cyber crime charges related to statements he made about serving members of the Guyana Police Force.
Bascom in two Facebook video posts had accused senior members of the Guyana Police Force of a cover up of the murder investigation.
He maintains his position on the issue. However, two Police Officers who were named during his Facebook statements filed criminal complaints against the serving member of the Force.
The complaints were filed by Superintendents of Police Mitchell Caesar and Chabinauth Singh.
In Court today, Bascom pleaded not guilty to the three charges that he used a computer system to transmit data with the intent to embarrass, cause emotional distress and humiliate the two senior Police Officers.
The Police Legal Advisor, Attorney Mandel Moore objected to bail, but that objection was dismissed after Bascom’s Attorney Nigel Hughes reminded the Court that the offenses are bailable offenses and his client will abide by any conditions set out by the Court.
Bail was granted in the sum of $100,000 on each of the three charges.
Meanwhile, the Court was also informed that a private cyber crime charge has been filed against the Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum over statements he made publicly against Bascom. That case is likely to come up later this month.
