A cleaner who worked at the GTT Giftland Store and five others were remanded to jail today for last Thursday night’s armed robbery at the store.
25-year-old cleaner Andrea Dover, 30-year-old Piercy Roberts, 27-year-old Ashley Mansfield, 24-year-old Jamal Haley, 24-year-old Ryan Goodluck and 39-year-old Osman Brummel all appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates Court today where they were charged with the offence of robbery under arms.
All six accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, but were all remanded by the presiding Magistrate.
In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said a total of $2.6 million of the more than $13 million that was stolen during the heist, has been recovered.
The Police indicated that when mechanic Piercy Roberts was arrested after he was found in possession of the getaway car, he admitted to being the getaway driver.
Roberts took investigators to his home where they were able to recover $500,000 which he said represented half of the money he got from the heist.
Investigations further led to the home of the cleaner who was attached to the GTT store and when agents carried out a search of her home, another sum of money was recovered. The cleaner said her take from the robbery amounted to $800,000.
The other suspects were later arrested and other money recovered.
GTT employees were closing up the store last Thursday when two men dressed in the uniform of the security company that works with the company turned up to uplift the day’s earnings for banking, but instead held the employees at gunpoint and made off with over $13 million in cash.
The six accused will make their next Court appearance in October.
