Two men, both 21 years old, were arrested after they were caught with a sizable quantity of cannabis and a firearm in the Berbice county on Monday.
Police Headquarters reported that an intelligence-led operation conducted by police ranks stationed in Regional Police Division #6 on Monday led to the seizure of a .38 firearm and 487 grams of suspected cannabis.
The operation was conducted at the residence of a 21-year-old construction worker of Budhan’s Housing Scheme, West Canje Berbice. The worker has since been arrested along with another suspect, aged 21 years, a labourer of Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
During a search of the building, the .38 firearm was found hidden in the roof.
A black plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was later found.
The suspects were arrested and escorted to the Central Police Station where the firearm was lodged while the suspected narcotic was weighed and amounted to 487 grams
