An 18-year-old teenager died on Sunday evening after he allegedly lost control of a minibus and toppled over a heap of sand along the Borlam Public Road, Corentyne, Bebice at around 18:50 hrs.
Dead is Marvin Ishmile of Betsy Ground Village in East Canje Berbice, who Police Headquarters say was driving minibus #PPP 391.
A Guyana Police Force (GPF) statement on Monday said the minibus is owned by Deonauth Moses called ‘Chinick’, a businessman of Betsy Ground Village.
On Sunday, Ishmile and an occupant, Rai Badree, 60, of Betsy Ground Village were in the bus when it collided with a heap of sand.
Police Headquarters said Ishmile was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle. The minibus then collided with a heap of sand on the southern side of the road.
This caused the vehicle to topple several times and resulted in Ishmile and Badree sustaining injuries to their bodies.
Public spirited persons assisted the pair by taking them out of the vehicle. The driver was in an unconscious condition; they were were taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where Ishmile was pronounced dead.
The lone passenger was treated and later sent away.
