Guyana’s top table tennis stars, Shemar Britton and Chelsea Edghill, are set to compete at the prestigious 2025 Pan American Table Tennis Cup in Burlingame, California.
The tournament, which starts today (February 18) offers a US$20,000 prize purse and crucial International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world ranking points.
Semi-finalists in the men’s and women’s singles events will also be eligible to win a place at the ITTF Singles World Cup in Macau, China.
Britton, currently ranked 479 in the world, faces a tough draw that includes players from Canada, the USA, Jamaica, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, and Guatemala. The multi-time Caribbean medallist will be looking to improve his world ranking and build towards future Olympic qualification.
Edghill, an Olympian and world-ranked 444, has been training with the Cuban national team in Havana. She will aim to overcome recent injury setbacks and assess her progress against strong competition from the USA, Guatemala, and Chile.
The Pan Am Cup features a host of top international players, including US Olympians Kanak Jha, Lily Zhang, and Amy Wang, as well as Brazilian Olympian Bruna Takahashi and other top-30 ranked global stars.
