Minibus driver, passengers arrested after ‘unclaimed’ gun found

A minibus driver and several of his passengers were arrested on Sunday after a Glock 9mm pistol was found in the bus.

Police Headquarters reported that the bus driver, Adrian Dailey, and the others were at Shanta Creek on the Soesdyke Linden Highway. Ranks on patrol received “certain information” and proceeded to the creek and searched te minibus, the police reported.

The gun was found behind the driver’s seat in a bag, but Dailey said the bag did not belong to him.

The passengers were identified as: Pettol October, a security guard at CJIA; Sharmain Yearwood, a supervisor from Pearl, East Bank Demerara (EBD); Dewon Johnson, a housewife from Hyde Park, Timehri; Janell Maloney, a supervisor at CJIA; Sherwin October, a foreman from Timehri; Amanda Glendon, a Customer Service Representative from Farm; Tramain Gordon, a housewife from Friendship; Nitesha Sookwah, a housewife from Eccles; Nicki Jordan, a consultant from Middle Road La Penitence, Georgetown; ⁠Devon Hazel, a 25-year-old from Alexander Village, Georgetown; and Andrew Black, a 30-year-old Block-Maker from Timehri. Two 17-year-old girls were also questioned.

They were all asked to retrieve their bags. However, none of them claimed ownership of the said bag the gun was found in and they all denied having knowledge of the firearm.

As such, they were all told of the offence committed, arrested and escorted to the Timehri Police Station. Adrian Dailey, along with the other occupants of the minibus, were placed into custody pending further investigations.
