Reg. 10 housing applications backlog to be cleared by mid-year – Croal

Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal revealed on Friday that the backlog for house lot applications in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) is expected to be cleared by mid-year.

“Region 10 will be cleared all before the middle of this year.

“So anyone, by middle of this year in Region 10, that has not been allocated will be because you making styles, because you looking for some land that you waiting on or two, have not made use of the opportunity to the offer,” Croal said at a housing event in the Region.

Minister Croal highlighted that in Region 10, there are over 4000 pending applications for house lots; 1,589 lots have been allocated in the past few years.

Additionally, more than $50 million in vouchers for steel and cement have been distributed in the region, assisting homeowners in starting their construction projects.

Meanwhile, Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo, at his weekly press conference on Thursday said the backlog of housing applications for the Berbice region will also be cleared by the end of the year.

The PPP/C Government has promised to distribute 50,000 house lots by the end of 2025. With more than 41,000 lots already allocated over the past four years, they are likely to exceed the target.
