EU President to meet with CARICOM leaders, President Ali

In what is being described as a definining moment in relations between Europe and the Caribbean, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is expected to meet with President Irfaan Ali in Barbados this week as she travels to Caribbean for direct engagement with the 15 Heads of Government of CARICOM.

“As we welcome European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen we also foresee that there will be a bilateral meeting with President Irfaan Ali in Barbados,” the EU delegation responsible for Guyana posted on their Facebook page.

“In moments of geopolitical turmoil, lasting alliances are not just important – they shape the future,” the European Commission to Barbados, Eastern Caribbean States, the OECS, CARICOM & CARIFORUM stated.

President von der Leyen will engage in in-depth discussions with regional leaders on shared priorities: navigating today’s complex geopolitical landscape, tackling the devastating consequences of climate change, and addressing economic pressures – all with a focus on sustainable and inclusive solutions.
