Cricket West Indies (CWI) President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Guyana Harpy Eagles on their remarkable triumph in the 2025 West Indies Championship.
On Saturday, their hard-fought draw against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force secured their third consecutive regional four-day title, cementing their status as the dominant force in Caribbean First-Class cricket.
In a statement released on Monday, Dr. Shallow lauded the Harpy Eagles for their consistent excellence, unwavering discipline, and high standard of play throughout the season.
“On behalf of Cricket West Indies, I offer sincere congratulations to the Guyana Harpy Eagles on their remarkable achievement,” Dr. Shallow stated.
“Winning back-to-back titles is a significant accomplishment, and their undefeated run this season is a clear testament to the strong leadership of captain Tevin Imlach and the collective dedication of the players and coaching staff.”
Beyond the Harpy Eagles’ success, Dr. Shallow also acknowledged the encouraging signs of progress observed across the entire championship. “We are equally encouraged by the overall standard of play across the tournament,” he noted.
“The emergence of exciting new talent, the continued development of our fast bowlers, and the improved application demonstrated by our batters offer promising indicators that align with our long-term vision for West Indies cricket, particularly in the crucial Test format.”
Dr. Shallow also addressed the increasing online viewership figures for the championship, firmly rejecting the notion that the longer format of the game is fading into obscurity. He highlighted the encouraging levels of engagement witnessed throughout this year’s competition.
“There has been a prevailing narrative suggesting a decline in the popularity of the four-day format. However, an analysis of the data paints a different picture,” Dr. Shallow asserted.
“This year’s tournament garnered significant viewership, and the record-breaking online engagement clearly demonstrates that there remains a strong and deeply passionate fanbase for red ball cricket.
The viewership numbers we witnessed this season indicate a profound connection with the longer format, underscoring its vital and enduring relevance within the cricketing landscape.”
Dr. Shallow further emphasized CWI’s commitment to nurturing and expanding interest in the longer format of the game.
“The growing viewership is a positive sign that fans continue to appreciate the tactical nuances and patient approach inherent in four-day cricket,” he stated.
“Moving forward, Cricket West Indies remains steadfast in its commitment to further strengthening the Test format, ensuring that our players are well-equipped to compete at the highest level on the international stage.”
However, Dr. Shallow also made it unequivocally clear that despite the Harpy Eagles’ commendable success on the field, CWI maintains an unwavering and strict policy regarding the integrity of the game.
He directly addressed the recent breaches of conduct involving two Guyana players who were penalized for altering the condition of the ball during the final match.
“While we wholeheartedly celebrate the deserved success of the Guyana Harpy Eagles’ season, I want to take this opportunity to remind all players that Cricket West Indies holds the integrity of the game in the highest possible regard,” Dr. Shallow firmly stated.
“There is absolutely zero tolerance for any conduct that undermines the fundamental spirit of cricket and brings the game into disrepute. The esteemed legacy of West Indies cricket has always been built upon a foundation of talent, unwavering pride, and unimpeachable integrity, and we remain fully committed to upholding these core values.”
The West Indies Championship, contested over seven intense rounds at international venues across the Caribbean, saw the Guyana Harpy Eagles emerge victorious with a final points tally of 126.6, earning them the grand prize of USD $250,000.
