UPDATE: Ghalee Khan returns to court on May 27 for report on psychiatric evaluation

Ghalee Khan, the deported drug trafficker who shot and killed his partner Marissa Beete before turning the gun on himself, will be returning to court on May 27, 2025, for the presentation of a psychiatric evaluation.

Khan was charged with murder on Tuesday. He appeared before Magistrate Rondel Weaver at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, West Bank Demerara.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison. However, the News Room understands his lawyer applied for a motion of insanity. As such, the matter has been adjourned until May 27, 2025 for the presentation of the psychiatric evaluation.

Deported drug trafficker Ghalee Khan charged with murder

Khan is accused of murdering Beete, an employee of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, on the evening of April 8.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred after Khan visited Beete’s Recht-door-Zee, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara home. The couple had shared a two-year relationship; they were not on speaking terms at the time of the incident.

When Khan showed up at the house, Beete’s mother reportedly told her not to open the door. However, she eventually did and the mother left the couple to talk.

Shortly after, an explosion was heard. Beete was found lying on the ground. She was bleeding.

Khan then fired a second shot at Bette before he went behind a door in the house and shot himself to his head.

Khan is known to law enforcement officials. He was deported from the US in 2024 after completing a prison sentence for drug trafficking.
